Located east of the Gorges du Verdon, about twenty kilometers from Castellane, Barg\u00e8me is one of the most beautiful villages in France<\/strong>. It is also the highest village of the Var<\/strong>, at 1097 meters above sea level and dates from the 12th<\/sup> century. Even in a region famous for its perched villages, it stands out for the magnificent views it offers.<\/p>\n

Barg\u00e8me has kept its charm with its ancient vestiges<\/strong> such as the 12th<\/sup> century church of St. Nicolas<\/strong> which is very typical of the Romanesque style.<\/p>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

At the western end of the Castle esplanade is the Chapel of Our Lady of Seven Sorrows<\/strong>. It owes its name to the fact that it was built by the inhabitants of the village after the massacre of 5 members of the Pontev\u00e8s family. They first named it Notre-Dame d’Espa\u00efme<\/strong>, a Proven\u00e7al word that means fear.<\/p>\n

In 1949, two Englishwomen<\/strong> came to this village to take in orphans and children abandoned<\/strong> during the war and provide them with a safe and healthy environment<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

Barg\u00e8me is located in an exceptional setting<\/strong>, with many hikes and walks<\/strong> to do! Several hamlets and villages are nearby such as the hamlet of Saint-Laurent<\/strong> or La Martre<\/strong>.<\/p>\n
